I sat in shock. After living in the woods for over 20 years I have never witnessed what happened this afternoon. I was on my computer working wihen I heard a loud thud on the glass window. I rushed over to the window and saw a beautiful dove lying on the porch dazed. I opened the door to go rescue the dove. As I got about three feet from the dove, I heard a loud screech over my shoulder. I turned to look over my shoulder and within a moment, a hawk swept down with it‘s talons and grabbed the stunned dove. Feathers flew everywhere and were all over my body. I jumped up and felt the air rush as the hawk flew away with the dove in it‘s talons. I stood in shock as the hawk flew through the trees with it‘s prey in it‘s grasp. I heard the dove call out and I started to cry. There was nothing I could do. My husband rushed out of the house to see what was going on. He just hugged me and said that as sad as I was, this was mother nature at work. The hawk had to eat and the bird was injured. I know this is the truth but I will never get used to the violent ways of our Mother.
