#BalanceforBetter
Each year on March 8, International Women’s Day is celebrated and supported globally. As a result, all of the world, governments, educational institutions, community groups, professional associations, media and more are getting involved. The day provides an important moment to showcase the world’s commitment to women’s equality. Additionally, it also provides opportunities to launch new initiatives, celebrate women’s achievements and raise awareness.
#BalanceforBetter
The theme International Women’s Day 2019 is #BalanceforBetter. It’s hard to put it better than the IWD website has, therefore we offer this direct quote:
The future is exciting. Let’s build a gender-balanced world. Everyone has a part to play – all the time, everywhere. From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence. Balance drives a better working world. Let’s all help create a #BalanceforBetter.
The IWD stresses that the 2019 #BalanceforBetter campaign runs all year long. In other words, it doesn’t end after March 8 and it calls for YEAR LONG action. You can learn more about International Women’s Day on the IWD website. It is the official go-to for detailed information, guidance, resources and everything else IWD.

Wear purple!
Internationally, purple is a colour for symbolising women. Historically the combination of purple, green and white to symbolise women’s equality originated from the Women’s Social and Political Union in the UK in 1908. Purple signifies justice and dignity. Make sure to wear purple on March 8.
