How Meditation Helps Your Mind, Body and Soul
Why should you meditate? Let us help you learn how meditation helps your body and soul. Meditation means awareness. So as a result, whatever you do with awareness and free from other distractions is considered meditation. For example, listening to your heartbeat is meditation; watching the sunrise is meditation.
The word meditation comes from two Latin words: meditari (to dwell upon) and mederi (to heal). Meditation describes a state of consciousness – when the mind is free of chaotic thoughts and the mind’s activity is reduced to one. With regular meditation practice, the energy of the mind, body and soul can be unshackled. As a result of this, the quality of your awareness can be expanded.

What is Meditation?
Meditation is simply focusing upon something, whether it’s an object, mental image, your breath, or even a sound to bring your thoughts to the present moment. By periodically letting go of the mental “to do” list in our heads, we reduce stress, relax, and as a result experience a positive physical changes in our bodies.
Although meditation is rooted in many religious and spiritual traditions, it provides stress relieving benefits and can be practiced by anyone regardless of their religion, culture, age or gender.
Why Meditate?
Meditation’s healing qualities are very apparent. Meditation helps by improving physical, mental and spiritual health. According to researchers at Harvard, Yale and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, meditation increases the size of your brain. Because of it, the brain changes in areas that deal with attention and processing. Studies by Robert H. Schneider, M.D., Maharishi University Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention found a 30% decrease in deaths due to heart disease and stroke in patients who meditate regularly.
Dr. Richard Davidson, Ph.D. of the University of Wisconsin and his colleagues discovered an interesting fact. They learned individuals who had meditation training produced more antibodies to a flu vaccine. They also showed increased electrical activity in parts of the brain related to positive emotions than the individuals who did not meditate.
