Mindfulness Day is celebrated on September 12. Each year we hope to raise awareness about the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits of mindfulness in every aspect of your life. Practicing mindfulness regularly helps reduce stress, depression, hypertension, and heart disease. It can also lower glucose to help with diabetes and aid your immune system which helps with cancer and other diseases.
Start practicing mindfulness during your busy day with the following tips.
- Breathe. Set an alarm for every two hours during the day. When your alarm rings, stop, take four deep breaths, inhale to the count of four and exhale to the count of four. As you inhale visualize this pure life-giving oxygen nourishing your mind, body, and soul and then exhale your stress and worries.
- Mindful eating. Eat mindfully today. Choose healthy, beautiful, life giving foods. Pause before you eat telling the universe how grateful you are for the plants, farmers, stores, and workers who brought this food to you. Eat slowly and savor each bite with reverence and gratitude.
- Your commute. Be mindful on your commute. Be kind to other drivers. Smile, let other cars in front of you and be respectful. We are all in this together.
- Family discussion. Have a family discussion over dinner about how your entire family can live more mindfully in our world. Go to the Mindful Living Network for more tips.
