3 Healthy Unicorn Drinks

The Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino caused quite a buzz when it first came up. This pink-and-blue swirl drink boosted Starbucks sells and gave thirsty fans a sugar high with its 59 grams of sugar. Now that this limited edition drink is no longer around, you can make your own healthy version of the Unicorn Frappuccino drink at home.

The base of the Unicorn Frappuccino is a vanilla and mango. The drink is then combined with a blue-colored white chocolate mocha drizzle, a sweet pink powder, and a sour blue powder. The end result is a fruity flavor-changing, color-changing drink with a purely magical look. Unfortunately, this magic isn’t necessarily healthy. While a grande-sized Unicorn Frappuccino has vitamin A (15 percent), calcium (20 percent), and protein (5 grams), it also has 410 calories and 59 grams of sugar (34 grams more than the daily sugar limit that the average woman should have).

If you didn’t get a chance to taste this drink sensation or if you’re looking for a similar drink with a healthy twist, check out the recipes listed below.

  • Detox unicorn smoothie. This recipe comes from Detoxinista. The base of the smoothie is made with almond milk, orange juice, mango chunks, a banana, and dragon fruit puree. The blue drizzle is made with cashew butter, spirulina powder, and water. And instead of sugary, sour powders, this drink is topped with crushed freeze-dried strawberries and blueberries. The end result is a healthy, beautiful drink that’s packed with vitamin C, vitamin B6, and vitamin A.
  • Vegan unicorn frappe. This Unicorn Frappuccino recipe has slightly less sugar and calories than the original but has healthier ingredients. This base of this recipe from Kathy Patalsky is made with a pitaya smoothie pack, half of a banana, mango, watermelon, ice, and fresh mango syrup made with mango and grapefruit juice. The swirl is made with blue majik and lemon vegan yogurt. The drink is topped with coconut whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. Not only is this drink delicious, it’s also vegan!
  • Simplified unicorn drink. This recipe from Cheeky Kitchen’s Brooke Lark is just as delicious, but it calls for fewer ingredients. The base of the drink is made with mango puree, coconut-almond milk, honey, and food coloring. The blue drizzle is made with honey and coconut extract. The drink is topped with homemade, honey-sweetened whipped cream, as well as blue and pink sprinkles mixed with citric acid for that sour taste. It looks just as yummy as it tastes.
