5 Natural Sunburn Cures

sunburn remedies, heal sunburn

Have you got sunburn? Unfortunately, this skin damage is a fairly common summer hazard. In the past, more than one-third of U.S. adults had sunburn in just one year. If you have sunburn, and the blisters and swelling are unbearable, try natural sunburn remedies.

5 Natural Sunburn Remedies
  1. Aloe vera ice cubes. Aloe for sunburn should be in everyone’s summer first aid kit. Once you suspect that you’ve been burned by the sun use aloe vera for cool relief. Fill an ice cube tray with pure aloe vera and allow it to freeze. Rub the aloe vera on your skin to cool down the burn, reduce the itching and stinging, and moisturize the skin.
  1. Sunburn baths. After you use your aloe vera ice cubes, try taking a relaxing, cool bath. For your bath use apple cider vinegar, baking soda, and oatmeal. The acid in the vinegar will moisturize your skin and the baking soda and oatmeal can soothe your skin. Be sure to keep the water relatively cool so you don’t further burn your skin.
  1. Cucumber lotion. Once you’ve dried off from your bath, moisturize your skin with a special cucumber lotion. This lotion combines the anti-inflammatory properties of cucumbers with the cool relief of aloe vera. This lotion calls for cucumber juice, coconut milk, and aloe vera. Keep your natural lotion refrigerated at all times. Apply your lotion by using “a spray bottle or by wetting a wash rag and applying to irritated areas.” You can find the recipe from Hello Glow here.
  1. Sunburn essential oils. Certain essential oils will also heal your sunburned skin. For instance, you can give helichrysum and witch hazel essential oils a try. The helichrysum essential oil can help with the inflammation associated with sunburn. It can also help promote healing after burns. When you use witch hazel for sunburn it helps with inflammation, too, as well as keep your sunburned skin from peeling.
  1. Refreshing body spray. It’s important to keep your skin moisturized throughout the day. So consider creating a sunburn body spray from Hello Glow—the antioxidants in the spray will repair dry, sun-damaged skin. The spray requires green tea, cucumber juice, aloe vera gel, and peppermint oil. Mix the ingredients, put it in a spray bottle, and store in the refrigerator. You can find the recipe here.
