Living green has always been very important to me. It comes with being on the farm, raising horses, rescuing and fostering dogs and cats. Living green reduces my carbon-footprint and it’s also a stress-free way to integrate green ingredients to everyday house cleaning chores. Avoiding the use of poisonous and hazardous cleaning supplies is so important to me because of my animals, my health, and the people around me. These nature’s cleaning trio ingredients go a long way, and cost less than buying chemical cleaners.

Three ingredients that I cannot do without include:

  • Lemons for natural antibacterial properties.
  • Vinegar for an all-purpose cleaner.
  • Baking soda for deodorizers.

For more information, try out these tips:

  • Use white vinegar. Don’t fret about the smell. It disappears after the vinegar evaporates. Mix drops of essential oils such as lavender or sandalwood to my equal part mixture of vinegar and water. It’s great on glass, porcelain, and stainless steel appliances. Avoid using vinegar on porous materials such as natural stone, granite, and marble. Overtime, the acid eats away at the material.
  • Add a few lemons. Lemons have a wonderful smell and are good for cleaning and shining brass and copper. Just cut a lemon into wedges and put generous amount of sea salt on it. The salt acts like a natural abrasive and cleans the metal. Sliced lemon peels also freshen up kitchen garbage cans and garbage disposals.
  • Sprinkle some baking soda. Use it to absorb all sorts of food and pet odors. Sprinkle baking soda on fabric or carpet before vacuuming. Open a box of baking soda and putt it in the fridge to deodorize the appliance. Mix vinegar with baking soda to create a paste for a heavier cleaning in the bathroom. Baking soda’s abrasive power is great for scrubbing.

If feels so good to help the environment, while knowing that I cleaned my house without any extra effort except for integrating and using sustainable ingredients.
